Room 202:  Filled with the Power of Yet

This evening I watched a great video on the power of growth mindset (recommended by my son Noah, who is in Grade 4) and I wanted to share it with you.  It's a good explanation of my teaching philosophy and what we are working towards in Room 202.  Carol Dweck is a very important researcher in the area of neuroplasticity and education.  Her Ted Talk can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-swZaKN2Ic

It was by coincidence that today Room 202 watched "Austin's Butterfly".  In this video, a teacher and a small group of children discuss the work of a Grade One student who is trying to "see like a scientist" while he draws an illustration of a butterfly.  His classmates help him to understand what he needs to improve on, much like we will be doing in our class.  Austin begins his butterfly at "not yet" and ends up creating an illustration he probably did not think he was capable of.  It's quite magical.  Find the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqh1MRWZjms
